New-Iphone-7-Concept-Gives-Apple's-Next-Flagship-A-Stunning-Redesign

Whether or not Apple launches a new phone this spring, we’re almost certainly going to have to wait until September before the true sequel to the iPhone 6s makes it to store shelves. For iPhone users who weren’t able or willing to upgrade to the most recent version of the phone, the wait can be excruciating. But in the meantime, at least we have concept art.

Fake INEC official arrested in Bayelsa

Fake INEC official arrested in Bayelsa

Security agents arrested a fake official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Famgbe, Yenagoa.

He was reportedly hired to help rig the election in the area. He reportedly made confessional statement indicting some government officials.

Soldiers arrest ballot box snatchers in Bayelsa

Two persons suspected to be agents of one of the political parties involved in Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Bayelsa have been arrested for allegedly snatching a ballot box.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the suspects were arrested by soldiers at Otuokpoti Unit 1, Ward 2, Ogbia Local Government Area, where the box was allegedly snatched.

The suspects were said to have forcefully carried the ballot box while polling was ongoing at the unit.
The incident caused pandemonium at the unit but after the suspects were taken away, accreditation and voting resumed.

An Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official in the ward, who did not want to be named, confirmed that security reinforcement had been sent to the area and that election would continue.

A member of the security team in the ward said the suspects would be taken to Yenagoa, the state capital, while investigation would be carried out on the incident.

However, police in the state said they were yet to receive report on the incident.

Spokesman of the command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, said it was possible that such incident occurred in the polling area but that the command had not received report on it.

Two reported dead in multiple crash near Enugu

Two persons have died in a multiple crash at Ugwuonyeama on the Enugu-Onitsha road, leaving many others with various degrees of injuries. The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement in Enugu on Saturday that one of the dead was burnt to ashes.

Amaraizu said the crash, which involved four buses, a Hilux van and two cars, happened around 7.30 p.m. on Friday but that the cause had not been established. He said that men of the command were on hand to control the traffic to avert further crashes while the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Man sets son ablaze in Kwara

A 22-year-old man in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, Sola Akangbe, died in the early hours of Saturday following wounds from a fire allegedly set on him by his biological father, Kehinde. The deceased, a wheelbarrow pusher, was said to have suffered high degree burns and was confirmed dead by doctors at Ajisafe Hospital, Omu-Aran, where he was rushed to by the police on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that doctors at the hospital battled to save his life as the fire affected most parts of his body. The deceased was said to have been accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from some roadside beggars on Friday and was apprehended and handed over to his father. The father, a commercial driver, allegedly drove his son to a nearby bush on Omu-Aran-Isanlu-Isin road, tied his hands and legs before setting him ablaze.

Sola, who was still alive when he was rescued, told his rescuers that his father was responsible for the act.
The mother of the deceased, Rachael, was seen crying in the hospital after the death of her son was broken to her. The mother, who is a trader based in Odo-Owa, another suburb, said a friend had notified her of the development on the telephone before she rushed to the hospital to check on her son.

The mother, who acknowledged that Sola was an unrepentant troublesome fellow, however, expressed shock at the father’s action. She disclosed that although she gave birth few weeks ago, she had divorced Kehinde about seven years ago as a result of irreconcilable differences.

Mr Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect was already in police custody and that investigation was ongoing.

Faleke, Audu’s son detained by DSS

Directorate of State Service has detained Kogi State deputy governor-elect, Mr. James Faleke and Alhaji Mohammed Audu, the son of the late Abubakar Audu. The Audu/Faleke Campaign Organisation, which confirmed the development, critisised the DSS for inviting and detaining both men.

The Organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Duro Meseko told newsmen in Lokoja on Saturday that Faleke was being detained alongside Alhaji Mohammed Audu, the first son of the late Prince Abubakar Audu.

He said that the duo reported at the headquarters of the DSS on invitation at about 10am only to be detained for undisclosed reason.

“They were kept in an office with assurances that an officer would attend to them soon only to keep them indefinitely,” Meseko said.

“I am surprised that my principal, Faleke and the eldest son of our political leader, Mohammed, are still being kept as I speak with you, which is about 4pm. One is hoping that they are not trying to arm twist them into abandoning the sacred mandate freely given to Audu/Faleke ticket by the generality of Kogi people, “he said.

Meseko reiterated the resolve of the members of the All Progressives Congress in the state not to abandon the mandate, saying “no amount of technical detention, intimidation and harassment will shake our resolve to get justice through the judiciary.‎”

He, however, distanced the organisation from the rumour making the rounds that the presidency was behind the DSS action. Faleke was the running mate to the late APC governorship candidate in the November 21, 2015 governorship election that was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Faleke is currently at the state governorship election petition tribunal seeking to be declared the duly elected governor of the state instead of Alhaji Yahaya Bello that the leadership of the APC picked as a replacement for Audu.

Chapo Guzman, World’s most-wanted drug lord recaptured

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The world’s most-wanted drug lord was captured for a third time in a daring raid Friday by Mexican marines, six months after he tunneled out of a maximum security prison in a made-for-Hollywood escape that deeply embarrassed the government and strained ties with the United States.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto announced the capture of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, writing in his Twitter account: “mission accomplished: we have him.”

image

Few had thought Guzman would be taken alive, and few now believe Mexico will want to try to hold him a third time in Mexican prisons. He escaped from maximum-security facilities in 2001 and on July 11, 2015, the second breakout especially humiliating for the Pena Nieto administration, which only held him for less than 18 months. The U.S. has sought his extradition, though Mexico in the past has said he would serve sentences here first.

But Pena Nieto gave a brief live message Friday afternoon that focused heavily on touting the competency of his administration, which has suffered a series of embarrassments and scandals in the first half of his presidency.

“The arrest of today is very important for the government of Mexico. It shows that the public can have confidence in its institutions,” Pena Nieto said. “Mexicans can count on a government decided and determined to build a better country.”

Guzman was apprehended after a shootout with Mexican marines in Los Mochis, a seaside city in Guzman’s home state of Sinaloa, said a federal official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to be quoted by name. He said Guzman was taken alive and was not wounded.

Five people were killed and one Mexican marine wounded in the clash at a house. It was unclear if Guzman was there or nearby when the raid was under way. Another law enforcement official said Guzman was captured at a motel on the outskirts of Los Mochis.

Given Guzman’s penchant for escaping through tunnels, the details of his capture, once they are released by Mexican officials, are sure to be startling.

After his first capture in Guatemala in June 1993, Guzman was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He reportedly made his 2001 escape from the maximum security prison in a laundry cart, though some have discounted that version. His second escape last July was even more audacious. He slipped down a hole in his shower stall in plain view of guards into a mile-long tunnel dug from a property outside the prison.

The tunnel was complete with ventilation, lights and a motorbike on rails, illustrating the extent to which corruption was involved in covering up such an elaborate operation.

In the United States, the Drug Enforcement Administration hailed the capture as proof of the close relationship between the two countries. “The arrest is a significant achievement in our shared fight against transnational organized crime, violence, and drug trafficking,” a DEA statement said.

The U.S. Justice Department commended the working relationship as well.

“I salute the Mexican law enforcement and military personnel who have worked tirelessly in recent months to bring Guzman to justice,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch said.

A Mexican law enforcement official said authorities located Guzman several days ago, based on reports he was in Los Mochis. bThe official, who was not authorized to be quoted by name, said authorities had even searched storm drains in the area. In 2014, Guzman escaped capture by fleeing through a network of interconnected tunnels in the drainage system in Culiacan, the Sinaloa state capital.

The Mexican Navy said in a statement that marines acting on a tip raided a home in Los Mochis before dawn. They were fired on from inside the structure, it said. Five suspects were killed and six others arrested. The marine’s injuries were not life threatening.

Marines seized two armored vehicles, eight rifles, one handgun and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher at the home, the statement added.

Photos of the arms seized at the non-descript white house showed that two of the rifles were .50-caliber sniper guns, capable of penetrating most bullet-proof vests and cars. The grenade launcher was found loaded, with an extra round nearby. An assault rifle had a 40-mm grenade launcher and at least one grenade.
Some in Mexico had doubted Guzman would allow himself to be captured alive, and others doubted that Mexico’s government — given the successive embarrassments of his two escapes from prison — would want to hold him again in a Mexican prison.

“Many people had doubted he could be recaptured,” Mexican security analyst Raul Benitez said. “It is a big success for the government.”

The United States filed requests for extradition for Guzman on June 25, before he escaped from prison. In September, a judge issued a second provisional arrest warrant on U.S. charges of organized crime, money laundering drug trafficking, homicide and others.

Former Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam had bragged earlier that Mexico wouldn’t extradite Guzman until he had served his sentences in Mexico.

Benitez said such bragging “makes me ashamed.”

“It would be better for the Americans to take him away,” he said.

EFCC raids Dikko, ex-Customs boss’ residence

OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, yesterday, raided the Abuja home of immediate past Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Inde Dikko, in search of cash and other suspected items. The former CGC is said to have presided over an organisation, which is believed to have generated huge revenues but also  made the Federal Government to lose heavy revenues through    import duty waivers for top politicians and their cronies.

The EFCC is said to be working on the allegation that the yearly revenue declared by the NCS was grossly lower than what was actually collected while some of its top officials were living far above their means. During his time, Dikko was always commended for the revenues the customs raised.

It was gathered that the suspicion of fund mismanagement and other forms of wrongdoings that had short-changed the nation, were responsible for the immediate sweep of the top echelon of the NSC by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and the appointment of a no-nonsense military officer, Col Hameed Ali, retd, to clean up the mess at the top revenue-generating agency of the Federal Government.

Although no specific allegation has yet been levelled against Dikko, it was learned that the raid in his house was a prelude to moving against him by the anti-corruption agency. The EFCC, however, declined to speak up on the invasion of the house when Saturday Vanguard called its spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwajaren around 7pm, yesterday.

Mr. Uwajaren said he had no information on the development. Saturday Vanguard learned that the search party made up of no fewer than seven tough operatives, stormed Abdullahi Dikko’s home located on 6, Ahmed Musa Crescent, Jabi, at about 7 am but did not meet their target at home. It was gathered that Dikko from the same state of Katsina with President Buhari, who voluntarily retired from office as soon as the president won his election, was out of the country at the time the visitors invaded his home.

Competent sources said that the commission was acting on a tip-off that a large amount of cash had been stored in Dikko’s homes. It was learned that the operatives had earlier in the week raided a mansion in the Maitama District of Abuja, which they thought the huge cash was being kept but hit the rock and decided to swoop on the Jabi residence of the former CGC.

It was not clear if  the raid yielded their expected result as at the time of going to the press, but a reliable source said that not much was found at the end of the search, which was concluded late in the evening, yesterday. The abrupt search of the man’s house, took his children and other family members by surprise, as some of them broke down and wept in the presence of the armed men.

Mohammed Usman, a relative of Dikko, who was taken aback by the action of the operatives, said it was alarming that the armed men could just break into the house and search without any notice or presence of the owner. Usman said: “From the information available to me, no search warrant was presented before the commencement of the search. “As I speak to you, they are currently in my uncle’s bedroom carrying out the search in his absence.”

Hunter killed a mountain lion and saw a deformity never seen before

A hunter in Idaho who killed a mountain lion involved in an attack on a dog discovered the lion had a beastly deformity. A set of fangs and whiskers were growing out of its head. A pic released Thursday by Idaho Fish and Game shows the big cat had another set of fully-formed teeth and whiskers growing out of the top of its head.

Wildlife officials say they have never seen a deformity like that but have offered up several theories. One explanation put forth is that it may be a conjoined that died in the womb and its remnants merged into the other twin. Another explanation is a so-called "teratoma" tumor.

This type of abnormality, whose Greek name translates to "monster tumor," can grow teeth and hair. In humans, it can grow fingers and toes.

Armed Robbers disguised as policemen rape corps members

Seven corps members returning from the recent holidays were among the 16 passengers attacked by robbers at a spot on the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Sunday. The females among the corps members serving in Enugu and Ebonyi states were reportedly raped by the hoodlums who blocked the highway to stop vehicles.

A victim of the attack told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Friday that the 16-seater bus carrying them was attacked by the robbers who disguised as policemen.

She said that the bus left Television Garage in Kaduna around 8:30pm and was attacked a few kilometres away from the garage. The victim further said the robbers mounted a road block to give the impression that they were policemen on duty.

“As we approached the road block, the driver noticed that they were not policemen and tried to retreat but it was late.

“The robbers sensing what our driver wanted to do, left other cars and descended on us,” she said.

The victim said that the robbers forcefully raped all the female corps members in the bus and took all their belongings which included laptops, jewelries, handsets, foodstuffs and money.

The corps member appealed to the government to ensure adequate security on the highways.

‘Government doesn’t want Igbo traders in Lagos’

Early last Wednesday, Oshodi made the news again, with a bulldozer at work. On orders of governor Akinwunmi Ambode, it rumbled through the Owonifari market,Oshodi, Lagos, crushed and flattened everything on sight within the market. But cries of traders at the market, roared louder than the bulldozer which pulled down the market. “I am finished, I just arrived from China with over N20million goods, they have crushed everything. Where will I start from?”

oshodi 1

It was a cacophony of noise, curses, abuses mixed with rage and anger. Even by-standers and onlookers did not spare the authorities, as some of them muted abuses on the Ambode-led government for destroying the market with goods worth over one billion naira. A few others said: Traders in Lagos are stubborn, they will never hear, that is good for them! Kenneth Madu, a trader in the market told Saturday Vanguard that he had been extremely brutalised as he lost everything he had laboured for in the market.

Battling emotion, Madu stated: “I just stocked my shop with new items I brought in from China a few days before the Christmas holiday. When I heard that they have sealed up the market, I rushed down to see if I can evacuate all my goods from the shop. They denied us access into the market and chose to demolish the market with all our goods. I had more than N20million goods in my own shop. Others had more. All attempt to remove our goods failed. I even offered to give the police N200,000 just to allow me remove my goods, they refused. I have been brutalised and traumatised. This is murder, they have killed us.”

He gazed again at what used to be his small shop that contained his over N20million goods leaned back to clear his over-burdened brain of the confusion and said: “This government is wicked and inhuman.” Asked whether there was any notice to that effect. He stated that there was no notice of the demolition, “they only came to serve a 21-day quit notice that Isopakodowo in Bolade has been provided. But the 21-day quit notice has not expired. Even where they said we should go at Bolade is uncompleted, small and cannot contain all the traders in this market let alone attract the patronage we receive here,” Madu stated.

Another trader, Mr Sunday Obi said: “I heard the government had sealed up the market while I was at home for Christmas, I quickly rushed down, but I got here on Wednesday. They have demolished and destroyed everything I had in the market. I had over N10million worth of goods. I sell wires and electronics in my shops. This morning I came to see if I could pick up a few things from the rubble, but I saw fire everywhere again. Who set fire on what was left?

“We don’t know. But, it means, there was a deliberate attempt for us not to pick up anything from here. If they (governments) don’t want the Igbos in Lagos, they should come out to tell us. How can they demolished the market without allowing us to remove our goods? It is inhuman,” he said.

Obi stated that over 2000 traders had their goods trapped in the demolished market, with huge loses that run into over a billion naira. “About 2000 traders had different goods in the market. I really can’t estimate what we have lost but a modest estimate will be over a billion naira. At a time when people have spent all what they had to re-stock preparation for business in a new year, it is wicked,” he said.

In 2009, Ambode’s predecessor, Babatunde Fashola, was praised for clearing Oshodi, ridding the areas of miscreants and easing traffic gridlock in the area. Following this development, Ambode who after inauguration said his government will govern with compassion, is perhaps set to conclude the unfinished job BFR started on Oshodi seven years ago.

Babajide Akiola "It takes killing of three to be promoted to next level" – 10-year-old boy

Standing among forty other suspects arrested over various crimes ranging from robbery, rape, impersonation and cultism, at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja , Wednesday, was an under-aged boy whose appearance struck this reporter. Judging from his fragile frame to his malnourished looks, coupled with an expression of fear on his light skinned face, nothing would have passed him for any of the offences listed against him.

But during an interaction with Crime Guard, 16-year-old Babajide Akiola, as he later identified him, confirmed that facial looks could be deceptive, following his admittance to belonging to a dreaded cult group that has been terrorising Satellite Town, in Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos.

He further opened a can of worms on activities of members of various cult groups in the area. Most startling was the revelation that children as young as ten years old are initiated into the various cult groups in Satellite Town.  By the way, Sattelitte Town was set up by the Lagos State government in early 1960 to help low income earners own their own houses, with some of the areas allocated to oil workers and   private buyers .
Along the line, illegal structures were built in the area, which unfortunately have turned the area which was once known to be an estate into a slum, with the prevalent activities of cultists holding sway. In this interaction with Akiola, a Secondary School Certificate holder, he revealed that , primary school pupils and secondary school students , including artisans in the area were forced into cultism. Attempt by anyone approached to put up resistance according to him, meant the out right relocation of the child’s parent from the area.

He further disclosed that children between 10 and 13 years who were initiated into major confraternity groups such as Arrow Baga popularly known as Arrow, were sent as spies on their rivals. The children as gathered were also sent to survey places like the massive Navy barracks before their ‘masters’ would strike.

How I was forced into Eiye confraternity

Giving an instance with his case, he revealed that he was approached right from the age of 10 to join the Eiye confraternity group. According to him “ When the pressure was too much, I had no choice than to give in . My father was an okada rider (motorcyclist). He was never at home. There was no one I could approach when the pressure to join Eiye was much on me . Even if I had approached my father, he would not have done anything because everyone is afraid of the cult guys. He would be forced to pack out of the area and he didn’t have the financial strength to do so.

In one of the occasions, one of them, Samuel seized my phone and my shoe. I went home barefooted. As if that was not enough, I was beaten to a pulp by members of the cult group, for committing no offence. I eventually joined Eiye confraternity in 2013, shortly after I finished my secondary school eduction.

Initiation

After my secondary school education , my father said I should go and work as an apprentice under a vulcanizer. On the day of the initiation, I was taken to a lonely area around waterside, where I was blindfolded. Thereafter, they beat me and poured alcohol in my eyes . My position in the group is called ‘Tender’ . This is the least position. My job is to spy on rival group members, particularly during fight and give their location to our members before they would strike. At first, no one knew I was a cultist because I was not moving with the known members. But later, my boss got to know and dismissed me”.

Graduated to robbery

Along the line, I lost my father. By the way , my mother was separated from my late dad. She abandoned me and my two siblings with my father. When my father died, I travelled to the village in Ondo state to see my mother but she never welcomed me as a mother would welcome a child she had not seen for long. Rather, she called me names and sent me away, saying it was impossible for me to stay with her because she had remarried.

Thereafter, I went to my grandmother who told me to join my two other siblings with her to farm. But I refused because of the hardship there. She gave me N3000 to rent an apartment in Lagos . When I returned to Lagos, I went to stay with a friend who is also member of same cult. Most robbery cases in Satellite Town and its environs were carried out by cultists. I only participated in the morning raids ,where those leaving for their respective business places are attacked and dispossessed of their cash, phones and other valuables. At the end of each operation, I usually got between N1500 and N3000. I have never handled a gun because I am only a ‘Tender’ .

Killings enhance promotion

Akiola , further disclosed that series of fight in the area were caused by rival cultists. He gave names of some of two major volatile cult groups in the area as

Eiye and Arrow .

“We usually had problems with the Arrow boys, over supremacy . So many persons have died during such clashes in both camps.

Our hit men are refereed to as flyers and Adaba . To graduate from the position of ‘Tender’ to ‘Flyer’ or ‘Adaba’ , it requires human blood. Anyone that can kill three persons at a go during fight with rival cult groups automatically becomes a ‘flyer ‘ or an ‘Adaba’. But I don’t have the mind to kill. The day I was tempted to ask what else can be done to graduate to the next level was when I saw a 10 year-old boy who was already an ‘Adaba ‘ . He came to where I was standing with other members and cleared me off from the ground simply because I did not pay him homage . He ordered me to lie flat and used my back as a leg rest. That was to show me that he was senior to me in rank”.Asked what the name of the 10 year-old boy was, he said he never dared to ask him.

Continuing he said “I was told that the alternative way to rise to the next level was to undergo another round of initiation which involved payment of N15,000. Aside that , I was told that a herbalist would be invited , who would mix cassava flakes otherwise known as garri with rice and would ask me to sort out the rice like a bird. Thereafter, I would be taken to Ibasa, a river bank where the real initiation which include severe beating would be done. I was told that several persons did not pass that stage as they died in the process and their bodies thrown inside the river.

I decided to remain in my position as a ‘Tender ‘ because I didn’t have N15,000 to pay and I was also not ready for another round of beating”. He revealed that areas prone to cult activities included Tambolo village, Ibasa, across the river, Bale, Ijegun, Egba, waterside, Fire Service around barracks, among other places.

Arrested

Akiola further stated that members of his confraternity group usually attended parties whether invited or not, adding that on their way back, they would accost unsuspecting persons who were going to their respective places of work. Luck however ran against them on December 29, 2015 , following the arrest of four suspected members, while operating at Chemist bus-stop.

Akiola said “ Bolaji was with weere((gun ) on that day. He used it to scare our victims. But we did not know that policemen were around. I regret joining a confraternity group. In fact, I feel like dying because I am not prepared to go to jail . If I am let off the hook, I will return to my grand-mother in the village and join my siblings in farming. Crime Guard gathered that some leaders of the cult groups were killed by policemen during shoot-out while operating.

The suspects, according to the Commissioner of Police , Mr Fatai Owoseni would be charged to court.

Court awards N1m damages against Police over violation of human rights

An FCT High Court sitting in Jabi, on Friday awarded N1 million damages against the Nigeria Police for detaining one Mark Sani for seven days without trial. Justice Halilu Yusuf who awarded the cost said the Police breached the fundamental human rights of Sani. Yusuf said although the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides for arrest by the Police, upon suspicion of anybody who committed a crime, such a person must be charged to court within a reasonable period of time.

The counsel to Sani, Mr Chinedu Akubuehad had told the court that Paul Udofia, the first defendant bought a plot of land situated at Lugbe, Abuja from Sani in 2014. AKubue said the land in question was later revoked by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) later in 2014, which prompted Udofia to report to the police. He said Udofia alleged that the applicant, the owner of Grow Venture Ltd sold a fake land to him and failed to address his complaints.

According to the counsel, Sani has explained that he bought the land from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) before the FCTA began the revocation. Akubue said Sani further explained to Udofia that plot and estate owners in the affected area had held series of meetings with the then FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed. He said Sani told Udofia that the minister promised to reallocate another plot to him and the others and urged him to exercise patience.

According to him, rather than exercising patience, Udofia reported to the police. He said Sani explained the matter to the police and pleaded for administrative bail, but the Police detained him for two days. The counsel also said that the matter was transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) where Sani was detained for five days

“I never said I was gay, people are just used to jumping into conclusion. I was only messing around in the picture that went viral. I am not coming out of any closet or wardrobe. The young man in the picture is actually my cousin,” he said.
