For iPhone users who weren’t able or willing to upgrade to the most recent version of the phone, the wait can be excruciating. But in the meantime, at least we have concept art.

Transgender girl, 6, 'tried to tear off her penis'

A six-year-old transgender child tried to pull off her penis and refused to drink water at school to avoid using the boy's toilets in a desperate attempt to become a little girl.

Briella Carmichael was born a boy but she has been identifying as a girl since she was a toddler. The year one student from Melbourne was diagnosed with gender dysphoria last September after her parents, Scotty and Kirra, sought help when their son Baylin said he wanted to live as a girl.

But then she started telling me when she looked in the mirror she sees a girl,' Mrs Carmichael told Daily Mail Australia.

'Once she asked if she was going to grow up and look like her dad with facial hair. She was hysterical and uncontrollably crying when I said yes. She would ask 'why wasn't I born a girl?' and 'will my willy go away?'.

'I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I didn't have the answers. I knew this wasn't normal and thought we needed to get help.

'People had said Baylin was going to be gay, but I had no idea it would be to this extent.'
Mrs Carmichael said the final straw came when her child started to 'self harm'.

It was over a period of time and I don't know how long for. She tried to rip (her penis) off and it swelled up and got infected,' she said.

'She was also off school for a week for being dehydrated. She stopped drinking because she didn't want to use the boy's toilets. She was so dehydrated her lips were all chapped.'
Briella's parents started attending transgender information sessions before they decided to see a gender specialist with their child.

She was then diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

'At home we were calling her Briella and the family started using female pronouns - she requested us to. Slowly over time we started buying girl stuff. It made her so happy,' Mrs Carmichael said.

ranbourne South Primary School, in Melbourne's east, helped Baylin make the change to Briella and organised for the Safe Schools program to come in, which helps teach students about their gay, transgender and gender-diverse peers.

'Before she didn't have one friend because Baylin was shy, withdrawn and sad. Now she’s Briella she is invited places, she’s in the girl group and she’s got best friend necklaces.

'She has attitude just like every little girl... I find her dancing in her room with a hairbrush. She is a different kid.'

Briella's mother Kirra said her daughter would become so upset by the thought of growing into a man that she started to 'self harm', which is when the mum of three decided things had to change.

Mrs Carmichael said the next step will be legally changing her daughter's name to Briella, but admitted it would be a difficult step. 'It’s a huge thing, but I know that she’s not going to go back,' she said. 'People don’t understand what us parents have to go through to get to this point.
'I had so many sleepless nights where I'd cry thinking is this the right thing?' Mrs Carmichael said she won't speak about other options like hormone therapy with her daughter until she approaches her about it when she is older.

Mother Accidentally Kills Three-year Old Son

Liam Turner, 3, was playing outside with his sister when his mother, Lyndsay Turner, 34, ran him over on her first time ever getting behind the wheel of the family car. The car which is a Citroen C4 hit the boy as his mother’s foot ‘slipped’ and the car ‘jerked forward’ and ran over little Liam.

Lyndsay was pulling into a parking spot near her home in Adland Road, Norfolk, when she hit the boy who was playing nearby with his sister. Liam’s father, Stephen Turner, 37, hurriedly moved the boy from underneath the vehicle and drove him towards the hospital, stopping to flag down an enrouten ambulance.

Despite being airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Liam could not be saved.
The incident which occurred last year, June 7, held its inquest at the Norwich Coroner’s Court today. It heard, ”Liam was playing outside with his older sister on a hot summer’s day when he died”.

‘My foot slipped and it jolted suddenly forward,’ Mrs Turner told police during her interrogation.
In a statement, Mrs Turner described how she had requested driving lessons from her husband and attempted moving the car a short way to get parked. It was the first time she had driven a car, ever. She also did not have provisional driving license and was not insured.

Mr Turner also revealed he had supervised Lyndsay while she moved the car to where she would park it. Neighbour Amy Jones saw Mrs Turner pulling into the space in a ‘stuttering’ manner and heard Mr Turner shouting ‘stop’ followed by a loud crunch.

When Pc Forbes Scott informed the court ‘Mrs Turner was on a public road and should not be driving’, Crown Prosecution Service said ”it was not in the public interest to bring charges.” ‘There are no plans to bring any criminal proceedings in this case,’ he added.
He also noted there was no fault with the car.

According to the inquest, Liam suffered ”irreversible brain damage and  serious head injury after which he died at the hospital’s accident and emergency department at 8.16pm that day.

Deputy Coroner Nicholas Holroyd who recorded the conclusion of accidental death informed the couple: ‘This was an appalling tragedy and you both have my profound sympathy for this loss. There are very few parents who when looking back have not said to themselves “that was a near thing”, tragically this ended as disastrously as it did.’

In a statement issued shortly after his death, the couple said: ‘We are devastated by the loss of our darling little man. Liam was a happy, content little boy who was always smiling and laughing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought joy to the lives of everyone who knew him. He was deeply loved.

‘Life will not be the same without him.’

Mr and Mrs Turner deferred from commenting further after the inquest.

Lassa fever kills 1 in Akwa Ibom

“We have contacted the family and gotten necessary consents and approvals to bury the remains according to WHO guidelines and the national protocol.

15 Year Old Girl Narrates Adam Johnson Meeting: “He Put My Hand On His Penis

Adam Johnson's sexual Whatsapp messages

A 15-year old girl who allegedly had sexual interactions with former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has narrated her part of the ordeal.

The girl cried as she told the court of how her relationship with Johnson began after she sent him a friend request on Facebook. They began texting each other shortly afterwards, and Johnson gave her a jersey when they met, and asked for a “thank you kiss and more” in return.

“He knew when my birthday was,” she said when asked by the court if he knew her age. “He knew when I was going to turn 16, and he asked what year I was in at school. I told him I was in Year 10.”

She added: “After the first meeting, he kept on messaging me and he asked for a thank you kiss. At the time I idolised him, and it was surreal. Then he said he wanted to ‘give me a kiss and more’.

“He said ‘you owe me for this’ and to be honest I can’t remember what I replied, I think it was ‘ha ha’ or whatever, then he said about a thank you kiss’ but he said he was not sure I wanted to and I said ‘why would I not want to?’”

Most of the sexual acts occurred during their second meeting in the former England player’s Range Rover. She told police: “He said ‘can I have my thank you kiss’ and then I said ‘aye, go on then’ and he was kissing me for quite a while.”

“He put his hand down my trousers and started putting his hand down my knickers and that went on for quite a while.

“He put my hand on his penis in his trousers if that makes sense. I said ‘don’t you have to go’ and he said ‘no, I will be all right’, it was getting slightly awkward.”

Death of Scalia Puts Court's Gun Stance into Question

Firearms are shown for sale at a gun store in El Cajon, California, on January 5. The late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote the controversial 2008 decision for the District of Columbia v. Heller, in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess firearms.

Remembered for his conservative view and vivid writing, the late Justice Antonin Scalia, who died this weekend, authored notable dissents and several groundbreaking majority opinions during his decades serving on the U.S. Supreme Court. Perhaps the biggest decision he wrote was in District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court’s most significant ruling on guns in modern times.

In the case, the court considered the meaning of the Second Amendment for the first time in 70 years by determining whether the U.S. Constitution protects an individual right to possess firearms or protects gun possession connected to serving in a state militia group.

Scalia, 79, was found dead on Saturday at the Cibolo Creek Ranch in Texas. A staunch conservative, the first-ever Italian-American justice had served on the country’s highest court for 30 years, and in June 2008 scripted the court’s controversial majority decision on the landmark case. In a 5-4 ruling that split the conservative and liberal justices, the court weighed in on gun ownership and took the view that the Constitution protects an individual’s right to own a firearm for personal use. The decision also struck down a decades-old ban on handgun possession and a safe-storage law in Washington, D.C.

The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The dissenting justices argued that the Second Amendment was created to ensure states could form militias to combat an overly powerful government, if necessary.

But Scalia rejected their view, saying: “Undoubtedly some think that the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security, and where gun violence is a serious problem. That is perhaps debatable, but what is not debatable is that it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct.”

In early 2008, a Gallup poll found a clear majority of Americans—73 percent—believed the Second Amendment guarantees the rights of Americans to own guns. And almost 7 out of 10 were opposed to the law that would make the possession of a handgun illegal, except by the police.

The court’s ruling was a radical departure from a previous decision on the Second Amendment. It arguably is also a decision that advocates on both sides of the gun debate have misunderstood. Despite the court’s ruling that Americans constitutionally can keep a loaded handgun at home for self-defense, Heller also allows for certain restrictions to gun ownership, such as who can own them, and where they guns can be carried. Today, scholars continue to debate the clauses in the Second Amendment.

In the syllabus of the court’s brief, Scalia wrote: “Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”

As the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence points out, the court in Heller didn’t address the issue of whether the Second Amendment restricts state and local governments. But the question was addressed two years later in McDonald v. City of Chicago , in which the justices ruled the Second Amendment applies to individual states.

As the justices prepare to start hearing arguments in just a few weeks, there isn’t an incoming case involving the Second Amendment. But Scalia’s unexpected death comes amid political turbulence in an election year, and brings into question the Supreme Court’s standing on gun rights. Despite calls from top Republicans for the Senate to refuse considering a replacement from President Barack Obama, he has said he will fulfill his constitutional obligations by nominating a replacement to Scalia’s now-vacant seat.

7 people killed, 8 presumed dead in Syria

Smoke billows from a fire at the southeastern town of Nusaybin, Turkey, near the border with Syria, where Turkish security forces are battling militants linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers, Party or PKK, Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, a day after Turkish media reports said a police officer was injured in a clash. The private Dogan news agency said the militants on Saturday detonated an explosive device in the town as a military vehicle was passing by, but no one injured. A second bomb was defused in a controlled explosion.

An airstrike in the northern Syrian province of Idlib destroyed a makeshift clinic supported by an international aid group on Monday, killing and wounding several people, activists and the group said. In the neighboring Aleppo province, a missile struck a children's hospital in the town of Azaz, killing at least five people and wounding dozens on Monday. And in a nearby village, an air raid hit a school, killing seven and wounding others.

Doctors Without Borders — also known by its French acronym MSF — said in a statement that the hospital in the town of Maaret al-Numan in Idlib province was hit with four times in at least two attacks. It said the attacks were minutes apart, adding that at least eight members of staff are currently missing.

"This appears to be a deliberate attack on a health structure, and we condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms," said Massimiliano Rebaudengo, MSF's mission chief. "The destruction of the hospital leaves the local population of around 40,000 people without access to medical services in an active zone of conflict."

The aid group said the hospital had 30 beds, 54 staff members, two operating theatres, an outpatients department and an emergency room. The statement added that MSF has been supporting the hospital since September and covered all its needs, including providing medical supplies and running costs.

Turkish forces' armoured vehicles patrol at the southeastern town of Nusaybin, Turkey, near the border with Syria, where Turkish security forces are battling militants linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers, Party or PKK, Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, a day after Turkish media reports said a police officer was injured in a clash. The private Dogan news agency said the militants on Saturday detonated an explosive device in the town as a military vehicle was passing by, but no one injured. A second bomb was defused in a controlled explosion.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Russian warplanes targeted the makeshift hospital, destroying it and killing nine people. The Observatory, which tracks the casualties in Syria's five-year civil war, said dozens were also wounded in the attack. Over the past week, Syrian troops have been on the offensive in the country's north under the cover of Russian airstrikes. The ground offensive has been focused on the northern province of Aleppo while Monday's airstrike struck the clinic in the nearby Idlib province.

"The entire building has collapsed on the ground," said opposition activist Yahya al-Sobeih, speaking by telephone from Maaret al-Numan. He added that five people were killed near the clinic and "all members of the medical team inside are believed to be dead."

Paramedics and volunteers were now working on removing the rubble, he added. The four-story building once was a cement company but had served as a makeshift clinic during the war, said al-Sobeih. In the missile attack in Azaz near the Turkish border, five were killed at the hospital and more than 30 were wounded, the Observatory said. Activist Bahaa al-Halaby who is based in the northern city of Aleppo says it was a ballistic missile adding that it killed 10. The Observatory said the dead include three children and a pregnant woman.

In Turkey, the private Dogan news agency reported that more than 30 of those wounded in Russian air strikes in Azaz, primarily children, were transferred to a hospital in southern Turkey. It showed footage of ambulances arriving at the Kilis State hospital and medical personnel unloading children on stretchers and a girl wrapped in a blanket as well as a handful of adults
"They hit the school, they hit the school," wailed a Syrian woman who was unloaded from an ambulance onto a wheelchair.

The Observatory and al-Halaby also reported an air raid on the village of Kaljibrin near Azaz. Al-Halaby said the air raid hit a school, killing seven and wounding others while the Observatory said five were killed. Meanwhile in Brussels, European Union officials on Monday called on Turkey to halt its military action in Syria after Turkish forces shelled positions held by a U.S.-backed Kurdish militia over the weekend.

The EU's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said that "only a few days ago, all of us including Turkey, sitting around the table decided steps to de-escalate and have a cessation of hostilities."

She said more fighting "is obviously not what we expect."

Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders, whose country holds the EU's rotating presidency, said "we have the plan for a cessation of hostilities and I think everybody has to abide by that."

Syria's main Kurdish faction, the People's Protection Units, has been most effective in combating the Islamic State group, but Turkey appears uneasy over the group's recent gains.
