Money Laundering: EFCC Interrogates Diezani’s Husband, Alison Madueke

EFCC-1

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have on Wednesday, February 17, apprehended Alison Amaechina Madueke, husband of the embattled former minister of petroleum resources.

Retired rear admiral and former chief of naval staff, Alison Amaechina Madueke

Mr Madueke, a retired rear admiral and former chief of naval staff, was reportedly picked by the anti-graft agency in Abuja over alleged money laundering to the tune of $600,000 through his personal accounts.

An impeccable source of the EFCC confirmed that Madueke was questioned for several hours in connection with some funds, which were traced from some suspicious transactions into his account.

It was gathered that Madueke was released on administrative bail, but would return on Thursday for more questioning.
“They think he has some clarifications to do. The invitation by the EFCC certainly had nothing to do with the wife. He reported there, cleared the air and he was asked to go back home,” the source said.
The source did not also say whether the transactions had anything to do with his wife, Diezani, who many believe authorized the controversial oil deals now rocking the industry.

Arms Deal: Olisa Metuh Pleads Not Guilty To 7-Count Charge

Olisa Metuh

The embattled National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh on Thursday, February 18, pleaded not guilty to an amended seven-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Daily Post reports.

Mr Olisa Metuh:

The Federal government through the anti-graft agency had filed a seven count charge of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering against him. The lawyer of the EFCC, Silvanus Tahir, during the trial, told the court that the prosecution has filed amended charges.

The prosecution then prayed the court to accept the amended charges saying “The charges are harmless and have in no way altered the original charges.
“We only crossed the ‘T’s and doted the ‘I’s.”
Mr Tahir also prayed the court to order the accused to take a fresh plea. The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, therefore ordered Metuh to take the fresh plea to the amended charges, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Metuh, who is facing trial for alleged money laundering, was arrested by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, from his Abuja home on January 5, 2016.

He is being accused of collecting N400 million from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki – the money was part of about $2.1 billion voted for arms purchase, but allegedly diverted by Mr. Dasuki.

Khloe Kardashian likes dirty talk

Khloe, who recently shared nude photos from her vacation last year, posted on her website how dirty talking turns her on.

She wrote: “I believe in dirty talk. Communicating during sex is a must, and I actually think it’s rude if you’re not vocal, LOL. If my guy isn’t vocal, I’m not excited. How am I supposed to know if he’s enjoying himself? I don’t even care what you actually say, either to me that’s not the important part.”

“You don’t have to come up with crazy s**t to say. It’s OK to just get louder if you’re enjoying something. I think that’s what you should do! It’s a sexy way to learn what turns your partner on, especially if you’re newly together.

“If I’m with someone who’s not vocal during sex, I’ll legit say, ‘Do you like this?’ in the middle of it, haha. If the person is silent, I’m like, ‘This is awkward. I feel like I’m violating you!!!’ (sic)”

Travelling Man Utd fans berate players after Midtjylland loss

'We're f****** s***!' - Travelling Man Utd fans berate players after Midtjylland loss
The Red Devils supporters were less than impressed with their side's display in Denmark as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat and they made their feelings known at the full-time whistle.

Manchester United's travelling supporters made their feelings clear after watching their side's embarrassing 2-1 Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland.

The fans inside the MCH Arena lambasted their own players at the full-time whistle, chanting "we're f****** s***" after Louis van Gaal's side suffered yet another defeat, their 10th in all competitions in the 2015-16 campaign.

United had took the lead in Denmark in this round of 32 first-leg encounter, with Memphis Depay poking home after 37 minutes.

But that lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Pione Sisto equalised shortly before half-time and then Paul Onuachu compounded Van Gaal's misery by netting a second-half winner after Juan Mata's flimsy challenge on the edge of the box.

Thiago Dismisses City Links

Thiago Alcantara has denied talks linking him with a move away from Bayern Munich for City. It was believed that Guardiola will lure Thiago to City, the same way he took the midfielder from Barcelona to Bayern. But the midfielder is happy at Germany and has no desire to leave Bayern.

“There are always a lot of rumours. It’s a fact that Guardiola is joining Manchester City and we have to respect that. But there is no truth in the rumours saying I will follow him,” Thiago was quoted as saying by Bild.

“I would not have signed a new contract had I wanted to leave the club. I extended my contract for a reason.

“I am loving life here in Munich. I am enjoying the city and life here in general.”

N45.9bn Fraud: We Are Still In Search Of Tompolo – IGP

Government-Ekpemupolo.jpg Tompolo

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has on Wednesday, February 17, declared that his men now have the warrant to arrest ex-Niger Delta militant Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), who was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with respect to a N45.9b fraud in the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase,

Speaking to pressmen in Abuja, Arase said the Police commissioners in Delta, Rivers, Edo and others have been issued the warrant for his arrest
Arase said: “We are still looking for Tompolo. The commissioners of police in Delta, Rivers and all those areas have been given the warrant for the arrest so that they could carry out the arrest.
“The EFCC has declared him wanted and you know the court has issued a warrant of arrest. So, it is the duty of the EFCC to publish him as a wanted person and it is our duty to ensure the arrest.
Tompolo and a former Director-General of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi, alongside eight others were charged to Court by the EFCC. The suspects were accused of diverting and converting to their personal use a sum of N34bn and N11.9bn belonging to NIMASA.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos issued an arrest warrant to the nation’s security agencies to produce Tompolo before February 19 to appear and answer 40 counts on an alleged N45.9bn fraud.

Naira Suffers Free Fall; Now ₦385 To Dollar, ₦505 To Pound At Parallel Market

Naira vs Dollar

The Nigerian naira on Wednesday, February 17, weakened further to ₦385 per US dollar and ₦505 per British Pound at the parallel market, while the official interbank rates remain stable at ₦199.34.

Naira: Exchange rate as at the morning of 18/2/2016: The Guardian

It was gathered that the demand for dollars to pay for Chinese goods was part of the reason for the latest decline.
“You know China had been on its one month annual holidays. But they resumed work on Monday, and people have to complete payment for goods ordered before the holidays,” a BDC operator said.
They had made 30% down payment to order the goods and they now have to pay the 70% balance otherwise they will lose the 30%.
That is why they are desperate and ready to buy dollars at any rate. Meanwhile supply is scarce and those who have dollars are not willing to sell because they might also need the currency soon”.
The rapid fall of the Naira had been traced to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) restriction policy on the weekly sale to Bureau de Changes with dollars on January 12th, 2016.

But in  a surprise turn of events, Puma announced an official Kylie deal, with a photoshoot already done. Kanye said to reporters: “She had already signed and I was mad for a little bit… but I’m really happy for her though.”

“I spent 53 million over the past 13 years chasing my dreams and I wanted to make sure all entrepreneurs that it’s possible to go under and still make it out.

“You know with my shoes I know I’m going to make it better but there’s times it was definitely hard, there was times it was a struggle, there were times it was frustrating because it felt like if you make the Yeezys maybe someone will come out and support you.

“It felt like if you are a dope artist then maybe someone will support you, but that didn’t happen. The only company that ever supported me was Adidas.”

PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff And The Long Road To Recovery – Chinyere Akataobi

former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff,

The 2015 elections have come and gone and the fallout and aftershocks of the last elections is still reverberating across our nation’s political landscape. While the APC are still grappling with the right method to fairly share the spoils of the war which they won, the PDP is still staggering under the intense blows that the last elections gave them.

It is understandable if the party is still licking the wounds that the last elections inflicted on it but there is really no time for the party to wallow continuously in misery.

If the PDP is to have a future and position itself has a viable alternative to the ruling APC in subsequent elections, the party will have to embrace reconciliation of the warring factions who are yet to leave the party, redesigning of its internal architecture and total rebranding of the party’s image.

If you want to understand how bad the party’s image is, observe little children engage themselves in a game of the famous “monkey post” any unfair act that takes place is followed by the shouts and choruses of PDP!!!! PDP!!! PDP!!!

The position of the national chairman of the party which has been vacant for too long has made the party look like a bus without a driver, a family without parents and more so a ship without a captain.

The lack of synergy and direction in the party over the course of the last eight months has seen the party fail to really take on the obvious faults of the ruling party and the continuous internal wrangling gives you a sense of a party which is divided against itself.

Selecting Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff as its national chairman is simply another nail in the coffin of a party which once boasted that it will rule for 50 straight years. In today’s world where public perception is vital, branding is key. Alhaji Modu Sherrif adds no value to the brand of the PDP.

It was under his watch that Boko Haram grew from a small group of fanatics to the prominence which they now have in the northeast. Alhaji Modu sherrif cannot be tied to one positive event during his time as governor.

For those that scream about his clout in the grassroot in the north, the 2015 election numbers from Borno is a clear evidence of how great an asset he is (numbers don’t lie).

What PDP needs is a father figure who the governors would respect, who would play a positive role in selecting the next chairman. The PDP needs a leader who the internal factions will listen to and who has a clear vision of how the party can return to power within the next 16 years.

Some may excuse the current situation as that of a boxer who has been pummeled severely and who is still staggering in a daze of the aftermath of the punches which his opponent laid into him.
I refuse to make excuses for the party, PDP has scored an own-goal.

Ghana Bans Importation Of Goods From Nigeria

This-Ghana-Partnership-logo-was-created-by-Year-8-students-at-Barry

Neighboring country, Ghana has followed in the footstep of Nigeria by placing an embargo on some items from entry into its domain, just as the latter had restricted 41 items from access to foreign exchange.

President Muhammadu Buhari with his Ghanaian counterpart, President John Dramani Mahama.

The Ghanaian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah stated on Tuesday, February 16, that Ghana and Nigeria are said to account for some 68 per cent of the ECOWAS region’s Gross Domestic Product, however, Ghana has placed a ban on some goods from being imported into Nigeria.

It was gathered that Nigeria accounts for almost 10 per cent of Ghana’s foreign trade volume, making Ghana the 9th largest trade partner to Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghanaian Association of Ghana Industries stated that there should be a clear letter written to the Nigerians complaining about this, and then also try and use some diplomatic means to quickly resolve it,”
“If it does not work then we must also look at countervailing measures…it could be product targeting,” he said.
Kate Quartey-Papafio, CEO of Reroy Cables also said “If we also make it difficult for them to export, then we would have to find common ground.”

Despite the prohibition, Ghana still remains Nigeria’s largest trade partner and favourite investment hub in the West Africa sub-region.

However, Ghanaian traders have expressed lament that Nigerian laws are too strict towards importation into their country. It would be recalled, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in a bid to quell the pressure on the Naira, banned over 40 items from accessing foreign exchange through the official window.
