Chris-Pine-Can't-Say-if-Lynda-Carter-Will-be-in-the-Wonder-Woman-Movie

Chris Pine doesn't even blink when I ask if he'd want Wonder Woman or Capt. Kirk to have his back in a fight. "Wonder Woman would win because she's radical," Pine says while promoting his new movie The Finest Hours with co-star Ben Foster. "And she looks better in a skirt."

New-Iphone-7-Concept-Gives-Apple's-Next-Flagship-A-Stunning-Redesign

Whether or not Apple launches a new phone this spring, we’re almost certainly going to have to wait until September before the true sequel to the iPhone 6s makes it to store shelves. For iPhone users who weren’t able or willing to upgrade to the most recent version of the phone, the wait can be excruciating. But in the meantime, at least we have concept art.

A gallant female member of the NYSC: NaijaCorpers

The Director of Press and Public Relation of the scheme, Mrs Abosede Aderibigbe, in a statement in Abuja warned that the scheme had not started posting to state of deployment and would not request any prospective corps members to pay for posting, describing it as the work of cyber criminals.
The statement reads: “The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to the activities of some hackers sending messages requesting prospective Corps members to go and check their states of deployment online.
“They refer their victims to a link and ask them to enter their login details as well as choices made during their online registration.
“Management wishes to inform prospective Corps members that posting to states of deployment has not commenced; but will be done at the appropriate time in line with our laid down processes.
“The so-called “link” being sent to prospective Corps members is the handiwork of cyber criminals and should, therefore, be disregarded.
“Prospective Corps members are particularly warned not to make payments for posting or change of posting as that is clearly the motive of the cyber criminals.
“Management will inform prospective Corps members as soon as their posting letters are ready for printing online or delivery to their various institutions of graduation.”
Meanwhile, NYSC wishes to inform prospective Batch A 2016 corps members of the following;

1.Hard-to-rectify mistakes during registration. Please take note and try to avoid them during registration:

A. Registration by proxy: affected PCM can not register at camp because the biometrics is not his/hers

B. Mixed up registration: some cyber cafe operators have the habit of registering more than one persons at a time in one computer by opening 2 or more tabs on the same browser. This causes mix-up in the PCMs information which is hard to rectify. We advise you to sit with the person registering you and make sure he doesn’t register another person at same time he registers u. When you want go somewhere before he finishes with u, tell him to log you out before he starts with somebody.

C. Don’t allow cafe operator to use his email address for you. If you don’t have email, let him create one for you and make sure he gives you the details…email address and the password. Keep them safe because you need them.

D. For married women, make sure you go with your marital documents, choose married online and upload them during registration. In the column to input your spouse surname, make sure you put the correct surname you are using after marriage.

E. For sick person, make sure you indicate it and the type of sickness, also provide all other details and upload medical report

F. For military and SSS, make sure you indicate and provide all other relevant info and upload the required documents.

G. If you are a foreign trained graduate, make sure you read the registration requirements by clicking here and upload all required documents. Try to log into your account time to time for information asking you to update some of your documents. Failure to do so may lead you not mobilized eventually.

2. NYSC has opened the registration portal for registration of 2016 Batch A. Follow this link and click on Registration for mobilisation Batch A 2016 http://portal.nysc.org.ng

3. Those with email confirmation issues should please start new registration with the same email address, confirmation would be sent to them now. Those who made successful payment and didn’t see call-up number on their dashboard should login now. We are sorry for the technical problem.

4. If you made payment direct to bank and you haven’t gotten your pin via sms, please scan the receipt given to you from the bank and send to [email protected] with all your details including email and phone number. If you made payment online using ATM card and your account was debited while the payment is not reflecting in your dashboard please drop your name and email address here. Sorry for the challenges.

5. Those whose names fell under error list should inform their institutions to correct and upload the names from now to Friday 12th February.

Nigerian Universities Commission Announces Overall Best University In Nigeria

UI (1)
University of Jos (UNIJOS) has been named as one of the best among second generation Universities in the country in 2015 ranking of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
The University was ranked the best after Ilorin.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, Principal Officer Assistant Registrar, Information and Publication of the university, noted that: “The second generation Universities are the 12 universities established between 1970 and 1985 to meet the increasing need for university education in Nigeria especially in the area of Science and Technology.”

Abduallhi said: “University of Jos was however ranked 7th in the overall ranking of all Federal, State and Private Universities in Nigeria.” NUC named the University of Ibadan in overall first position while Covenant University was rated as the best private University in Nigeria.

Similarly, a student of UNIJOS bagged First Class among his peers in the November 2015 Bar Final Examination of Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja. The student, Okwor Keneth Ononeze was among the 2013/2014 graduates of the university.

Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Council of Legal Education, Mrs Max-Uba conveyed this through a letter of commendation to the university, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hayward Mafuyai. Mafuyai described the ranking as clear recognition of the enormous work being done in the university.

“It was encouraging that the university was being appreciated for the impact it is creating towards humancapital development in the country, noting that the ranking was consistent with the University’s global rating.

“If not for some challenges, the University could have achieved greater success. I enjoin all stakeholders to rally round towards ensuring that the University achieves its full potential,” he said.

While expressing his excitement at Ononeze’s performance at the Final Bar Exam of the Nigerian Law School, Mafuyai commended the efforts of Lecturers and other Staff in the University whom he said are sacrificing a lot to ensure that the Students get the best education.

He assured that the University administration would not rest on its oars towards making the University the choice destination for all its academic programmes.

I write about money every day, and here's the best financial advice I can give you

If this were my last post on money ... I'd want you to know the following:

1. Managing money is so easy once you figure it out. It's scary and frustrating and all kinds of annoying before hand, but once you "get it" you're good forever. It's like riding a bike — you fall down a ton early on, but the more you practice the better you get. You'll still fall afterwards, but usually only because you're trying to be slick ;)

2. The only one who cares about your money is you. People want you to succeed and love you of course (hi mom!), but at the end of the day it's all up to you and the actions you take or don't take. You're the only one who can live your life and knows what makes you happy.

3. Work on the stuff that excites you! It doesn't matter if it's paying off debt, saving for a house, investing in retirement — they're all GREAT ways to secure your future. Just pick the one that makes you happiest and focus on it until you get it. Then repeat. (And if you change your mind in two weeks? That's OK, too. There's no one watching you or rules to follow.)

4. Max out your 401(k) match. It's free money. If you don't know how to invest it, check these guys out.

5. Create a separate savings account when you're saving for something big. Nothing is more
motivating than watching a pile of cash grow and knowing 100% of it is going towards your main goal. It's one of the easiest ways to score traction.

6. Use time to your advantage. No matter how hard we try, we can't slow down time. Invest those dollars now — even if they're just dollars — and get them on their way to making babies and grand-babies. You want your money copulating while you sleep.

millennials

7. Give yourself a break! Try not to be so hard on yourself, and focus on the future you and not the you that got yourself into a mess. You're smarter now and ready to do this thing or else you wouldn't be such a nerd reading about money right now.

8. The end goal is freedom, not millions of dollars. Sometimes (oftentimes) you need millions of dollars, but it's not about piling it up just to see how high you can get it. It's about living a life on your own terms and using money to buy you TIME. Time for your family, time for your passions, and most importantly time for yourself. That's the point of paying attention to it all — financial freedom.

God forbid this is my last post, but if it were that's exactly what I'd want you to know. This stuff isn't rocket science, but you have to want it bad enough to go out and make it happen.

CHILD MORTALITY DROPS BY 53.5% SINCE 1990, SAYS REPORT

• ‘16,000 children under-five years old die daily’ • Prematurity, pneumonia, birth complications top causes of death.

THE United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organisation (WHO), the World Bank Group and the Population Division of United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) in a report released yesterday said under-five deaths have dropped from 12.7 million per year in 1990 to 5.9 million in 2015.

The report, which said global child mortality rates have dropped by 53.5 per cent in 25 years, also identified prematurity, pneumonia, complications during labour and delivery, diarrhoea, sepsis and malaria as leading causes of death for children under five years old, saying that nearly half of all under-five deaths are associated with under-nutrition.

The new child mortality report 2015 released by the United Nations (UN) organs indicated that although the global progress had been substantial, 16,000 under-five children still die every day, noting that the 53.5 per cent drop in under-five mortality is not enough to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of a two-thirds reduction between 1990 and 2015.

According to the report, despite low incomes, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania have all met the MDGs target but sub-Saharan Africa as a whole, however, continues to confront the immense challenge of a burgeoning under-five population – projected to increase by almost 30 per cent in the next 15 years – coupled with persistent poverty in many countries.

The report highlights that a child’s chance of survival is still vastly different based on where he or she is born. Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest under-five mortality rate in the world with one child in 12 dying before his or her fifth birthday – more than 12 times higher than the one in 147 average in high-income countries. In 2000 to 2015, the region has overall accelerated its annual rate of reduction of under-five mortality to about two and a half times what it was in 1990-2000.

UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Geeta Rao Gupta, said: “We have to acknowledge tremendous global progress, especially since 2000 when many countries have tripled the rate of reduction of under-five mortality.

Besides, Assistant Director-General at WHO, Dr. Flavia Bustreo, said: “We know how to prevent unnecessary newborn mortality. Quality care around the time of childbirth, including simple affordable steps like ensuring early skin-to-skin contact, exclusive breastfeeding and extra care for small and sick babies can save thousands of lives every year.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Wu Hongbo, said: “This new report confirms a key finding of the 2015 Revision of the World Population Prospects on the remarkable decline in child mortality globally during the 15-year MDG era.

“Rapid improvements since 2000 have saved the lives of millions of children. However, this progress will need to continue and even accelerate further, especially in high-mortality countries of sub-Saharan Africa if we are to reach the proposed child survival target of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.”

Also, Senior Director of Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank Group, Dr. Tim Evans, said: “Many countries have made extraordinary progress in cutting their child mortality rates. However, we still have much to do before 2030 to ensure that all women and children have access to the care they need.”

RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINANTS FOUND IN COAL ASH

coal ash

A new Duke University-led study has revealed the presence of radioactive contaminants in coal ash from all three major U.S. coal-producing basins.

The study found that levels of radioactivity in the ash were up to five times higher than in normal soil, and up to 10 times higher than in the parent coal itself because of the way combustion concentrates radioactivity.

The finding raises concerns about the environmental and human health risks posed by coal ash, which is currently unregulated and is stored in coal-fired power plants’ holding ponds and landfills nationwide.

“Until now, metals and contaminants such as selenium and arsenic have been the major known contaminants of concern in coal ash,” said Avner Vengosh, professor of geochemistry and water quality at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment. “This study raises the possibility we should also be looking for radioactive elements, such as radium isotopes and lead-210, and including them in our monitoring efforts.”

Radium isotopes and lead-210 occur naturally in coal as chemical by-products of its uranium and thorium content. Vengosh’s research team revealed that when the coal is burned, the radium isotopes become concentrated in the coal ash residues, and the lead-210 becomes chemically volatile and reattaches itself to tiny particles of fly ash. This causes additional enrichment of radioactivity in the fly ash.

“Radioactive radium and lead-210 ends up concentrated in these tiny particles of fly ash, which though individually small, collectively comprise the largest volume of coal ash waste going into holding ponds and landfills,” said Nancy Lauer, a Ph.D. student in Vengosh’s lab who was lead author of the study.
Vengosh, Lauer and their colleagues published their peer-reviewed paper Sept. 2 in the journal Environmental Science & Technology.

The study comes as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s first-ever regulations on coal ash disposal are set to go into effect in October.

Currently, coal ash disposal sites are not monitored for radioactivity, Vengosh noted, “so we don’t know how much of these contaminants are released to the environment, and how they might affect human health in areas where coal ash ponds and landfills are leaking. Our study opens the door for future evaluation of this potential risk.”

Smokestack scrubbers installed at U.S. power plants keep these contaminants from escaping into the air when the coal is burned, he stressed. But if the contaminated coal ash is spilled, or if effluents leak from ponds or landfills, it may pose a hazard.

“Because of the tiny size of the fly ash particles, they are much more likely to be suspended in air if they are disposed in a dry form. People breathing this air may face increased risks, particularly since tiny particles tend to be more enriched in radioactivity,” Lauer said.

Vengosh said this study is the first systematic study to compare radioactivity in coal and coal ash from the Illinois, Appalachian and Powder River basins. The researchers collected multiple samples of coal and coal ash from all three coal-producing basins and then measured the radioactive elements in each sample.

Their tests showed that coal and coal ash from different basins exhibited different levels of radioactivity — the Illinois basin had the most, followed by the Appalachian and then the Powder River, which is in Wyoming and Montana. The tests also showed that the ratio of radium to uranium in the parent coal was consistent with the ratio found in its residual coal ash.

THINGS TO MAKE WOMEN MORE INTELLIGENT

1. They read and write more than speak

Reading is the thing almost every quiet woman loves most of all. They spend hours in libraries and read piles of books there. They also like to make personal notes so that they don’t forget different important things because when you get so many information every day, it becomes hard to remember everything. These notes often become world famous literature or the latest inventions. Reading and writing are another traits of quiet women that make them ingenious.

2. They feel happy

Ernest Hemingway once said that “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” We can all think of intelligent people who seem to be driven to misery by their intelligence (Hemingway committed suicide), and there does seem to be a strong link between intelligence and mood. In the past it was thought that high IQ was linked to depression and low moods. This year, however, a study in the UK showed that those with lower IQ were more likely to be unhappy than their more intelligent colleagues. Once again, it could be the characteristics associated with intelligence – rather than intelligence itself – which have tended to induce despair.

3. They notice the things others miss

Talkative women are mostly focused on their speech and on themselves. It prevents them from realizing that there are more interesting things in this world them their own person. Those who keep silent can notice the things others miss because they`re not engaged in themselves as it may seem. Even though they are self-centered, they think about the world in general and can see various aspects of life in more details.

4. They know how to share information with others

No, you did not tell us about that important dinner that’s oh, tonight and the house is a mess and the kids need bathing and let’s not even discuss your nose hair. We tell you all these things because it’s part of our nurturing behavior — we want you to succeed. Not that you don’t want us to — you just don’t think it’s a big deal. Which is dumb.

5. They give the brain time to relax

One of the main things that makes quiet women smarter is the way their brain works. While girls with talkative nature make the brain work non-stop, those who say less give it some time to relax and rearrange everything. Look, if you talk, talk and talk all the time, it takes lots of energy and you practically have no time to renew the “operating system” inside of your head. But if you take a break from talking, it refreshes your thoughts and you start analyzing things instead of simply looking at them.

friends_women_idiva

6. They think carefully before they speak

Chattering women often say nonsense as they rarely think before they speak. They love talking and don’t always pay attention to the value of their words. A quiet woman will never tell you everything she has in mind. She would rather choose her brilliant words in extremely careful way and only then speak. No matter what she says, she does it in the best way she can.

7. They aren’t shy

– they’re introverted: Introverts are the smartest people on the planet. As a rule, they become great scientists and professors. Shyness and introversion are different things. Shy people are afraid to be judged by others but introverted ones just like to be in their own beautiful world of thinking. They may seem to be lonely because they spend too much time reading books but it doesn`t mean that they don`t like to be in a circle of friends. They have different preferences in life and that`s it.

8. They don’t speak

– they think instead: Quiet women just have no time to talk. They prefer thinking. They lead an “inside dialog” in their heads and it makes them smarter and sometimes they even go too far. When they want to ask something, answer’);”>the answer suddenly emerges in their mind and they continue keeping silent. They have an endless exciting conversation with themselves and they`re actually happy with this fact.

9. They work when others speak

Quiet women work all the time as their brain always produces fabulous ideas. They don`t take a break for chattering like other people do. When you speak, you don`t create. You just let people know what you think but it`s not necessary if you actually have nothing exciting to say. Talkative women do nothing useful but chat, while quiet individuals make their brains work and are busy with solving their inner questions on their own.

10. They are good listeners

The most intelligent individuals tend to be perfect listeners. They absorb all the available information and turn it into knowledge. Chatterboxes often ignore the most important things they hear because they speak even when it`s time to listen. Such amazing listening skills help quiet women to boost the success of their self-education and it makes them smarter than others. These things make quiet women smarter than talkative ones. If you`re a quiet introverted individual, you don`t need to suffer from having no desire to support useless conversation. You just don`t need it because you have much more important things to do. You love to educate yourself and it makes you more intelligent every day of your life. You don`t waste time for chattering as you know it`s not worth it. No doubt, these traits deserve to be proud of. What other advantages of quiet women do you know?
