For iPhone users who weren’t able or willing to upgrade to the most recent version of the phone, the wait can be excruciating. But in the meantime, at least we have concept art.

65 year old woman gets twelve strokes over witchcraft allegation in Sokoto

A 65 year old woman identified as Zainab Labbo was allegedly flogged with twelve strokes as punishment for practicing witchcraft in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto state.

According to The Sun, Zainab was flogged at the palace of the District Head, Alhaji Nasiru Malami Ahmed, in response to a complaint lodged against her by her daughter-in-law. Residents of the community say Zainab's daughter-in-law had lodged a complaint before the district head last year, alleging that her mother-in-law was aiding her son to maltreat her through diabolical means.

The palace authority summarily tried the accused and found her guilty of the allegation leveled against her. Zainab denied the allegation to journalists who were there to investigate the incident. She also confirmed that twelve strokes were administered on her by the palace guards on the order of the District Head.

Aggrieved members of the village recently held a press conference where they stated that the woman was not the first victim to suffer such an unjust treatment by palace authorities. They added that many residents have been invited to the palace and summarily tried for one offence or the other. They accused the District head, Alhaji Nasiru Malami Ahmed of high handedness. They called on the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, to come to their aid, as a matter of urgency.

However in response to the allegations of maltreatment, the younger brother to the district head, Alhaji Aliyu Sarkin-Yamma, and Village Head of Tsabre area, described the the allegations as “unfounded”. He explained that all disputes lodged at the palace are handled in accordance with the dictates of Shari’ah Law. He said both himself and his brother are running the affairs of the people with the absolute fear of God, saying, “we are only dispensing justice in accordance with Shari’ah Law and we are not afraid of any probe in this direction.”

The Divisional Police Officer in the area, Mr Ilyasu Tanko, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), when contacted, confirmed the receipt of the complaints of attacks from the villagers and said  that the police is appropriately investigating the matter.

Pastor Anita Oyakhilome writes about abusive relationships and marriages

In a post on her blog titled 'There is always something to be thankful for', pastor Anita Oyakhilome, who filed for divorce from the founder of Christ Embassy, Chris Oyakhilome, on April 9, 2014 on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” talks about abusive relationships and marriages.

She began with a quote from American actor, Michael J. Fox "One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.". See what she wrote after the cut...

She wrote:

After an abusive relationship or marriage, there is no doubt you will have feelings of deep sorrow for a long time, which could go on for possibly months or even years. These feelings will come and go periodically as you reflect and you remember things from the past that would make you feel distressed.
You may be inundated with disappointments, which may lead you to voice your regrets, especially coming across certain people or a person. Several Instances could cause flashbacks and bring back thoughts of regret such as; signing a contract, making a decision, joining an organization, trusting people, buying a property. Also your mind would question why you hung unto a dead marriage or stayed in an abusive relationship. Don't stay in that condition for too long.
Regrets will only aggravate your feelings. Forget about the things you cannot change and focus on being thankful. Don’t put your life on hold, rather plan what you would like to accomplish in one week, one month, three months and in a year’s time.
See the silver lining in the cloud. You may struggle to find or observe that flicker of light emerging out of the darkness but give yourself time to recover from that shocking hopeless experience, then thank God for making you strong enough to walk away from the abuse.
The situation might be tough, with burdensome chains, but you will get better. You can rise up to the challenge and improve yourself. Something good will come out of your situation. You will become a stronger and more productive person when you learn from your experience and use your knowledge to improve yourself for new prospects ahead. "I want my life to bring comfort to others and I am on that journey now thankfully." Every ending is really a new beginning for beautiful opportunities ahead.

Okorocha, Oshiomole say they will not declare their assets publicly

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and his Edo state counterpart, Adams Oshiomole say they will not be following in the footsteps of President Buhari in declaring their assets publicly. Speaking with Punch through his chief press secretary Sam Onwuamado, Governor Okorocha said declaration of assets was an individual thing and that no governor is mandated to do so by law..
"This is an individual thing. Governor Okorocha believes he is a second term governor. He is not a new governor that should be declaring assets. Meanwhile there is no law that says governors should declare their assets. When former president Jonathan was in power, who talked about declaration of assets? What president Buhari has done is a good thing but it is not mandatory"he said
On his part, Oshiomole who also spoke through his media aide, Kassim Afegbua, said it was not enshrined in the constitution that it was mandatory for him to declare his assets
"My governor has said while it is constitutional for public office holders to declare their assets making it public is not a matter enshrined in the 1999 constitution. Every public officer is bound to declare but the idea of making it public is not in the constitution"he said
