PDP Senators allegedly threaten Saraki over Amaechi’s confirmation

Peoples Democratic Party Senators have resolved the block the ministerial confirmation of two nominees, Rotimi Amaechi and Pastor Usani Uguru. The PDP Senate caucus held a private meeting immediately after the end of plenary session on Wednesday, to determine their course of action.

During the meeting, the PDP Senators agreed to scuttle the confirmation of the former governor of Rivers state, and Uguru. The senators have insisted on not allowing Amaechi get confirmed for ministerial appointment, unless the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges on the petitions filed against him, is submitted for consideration.

It is believed that the PDP Senators are still displeased over the role Amaechi played in the defeat of the opposition party in the last general election. Also, the PDP senators are smarting over the unfavourable election tribunal judgments in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, and Amaechi, seems to be the perfect scapegoat for them.

As for Uguru, his crime before the PDP Senators, was his shouting of ‘God forbid’, when asked if he had anything to do with the PDP. It is however, expected that Senate President, Bukola Saraki will intercede on behalf of Amaechi and Uguru.

But the PDP senators have reportedly threatened to withdraw their support for Saraki, if he forces the confirmation of Amaechi and Uguru, to sail through.
