‘Power Rangers’ Actor Faces Life In Prison Over 2015 Murder

Almost a year after Josh Sutter died from a sword stabbing, Ricardo Medina was picked up today by the L.A. Sheriff’s department for the killing of his then roommate. The former Power Rangers star has now been charged with murder by the L.A. County District Attorney’s office. If convicted of the one count, the actor could face from 26-years to life in prison for the death of Sutter on January 31, 2015.

Presently being held in custody, Medina is scheduled to be arraigned on January 19 in the Antelope Valley Branch of the L.A. County Superior Court. L.A. D.A. Jackie Lacey’s office say they will ask at that hearing for bail to be set at $1 million. Deputy D.A. Tannaz Mokayef with the Major Crimes Division is handling the case. Medina and Sutter were supposedly arguing over personal matters when the stabbing occurred.

Medina played Cole Evans AKA the Red Wild Force Ranger in the 2002 Power Rangers Wild Force series seen on FOX Kids and ABC Kids. He returned to the Power Rangers brand, which had been bought back from Disney by Haim Saban, in 2011 for Power Rangers Samurai. That season of the Power Rangers was actually split in two with Power Rangers Super Samurai making up the second set of 20-episodes in 2012.

Though taken in for the murder back on the last day of January last year, Medina was let go after a court hearing because case was rejected. At the time, the D.A.’s office said it would the matter was still being investigated and would not rule out charges down the line. “I’m very, very, very sorry for what occurred,” Medina said at the time of his release last February. “I’m very happy to be out of jail, and my heart goes out to the Sutter family.” While the investigation by the Sheriff’s department is ongoing, the D.A.’s office obviously felt they had enough evidence now to make an arrest and lay charges.
