The Supreme Court has thrown out the jurisdiction suit filed by Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, against the tribunal that nullified his election The Rivers tribunal had on Saturday sacked Wike as governor, and
ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct
fresh elections within 90 days.
Wike challenged the ruling, stating that a tribunal sitting in Abuja had no jurisdiction over issues of Rivers state. In its ruling of Tuesday, the Supreme Court stated that the tribunal
had jurisdiction to handle the trial and hear the petition of Peterside.
It ruled that the shift in location of the tribunal from Rivers to
Abuja was out of necessity, and added that it was within the Appeal
Court President’s prerogative to order for the relocation.
Wike’s suit was therefore dismissed for lack of merit.
