Susan
Story, a mother-of-two from North Carolina was attacked and killed by a
pit bull terrier two weeks after she adopted the dog.
Mrs
Story was attacked by the animal she fondly called ‘my big baby’ on
Wednesday, February 10, as she succumbed to her injuries just as a
medical crew from Norfolk landed to take her to a hospital, Daily Mail reports.
According
to her stepfather, Randy Brown, Story adopted the dog two weeks ago
prior to the tragedy in Virginia after seeing it advertised in a
newspaper. Brown divulged that her daughter loved animals, and two weeks ago Story added a fifth dog to the house, a pit bull named Buddy.
“She told me that there was an ad in a local paper for a dog, the ad said it was “easy-going” and good with kids,” Brown said.
Brown
said the pit bull’s previous owners, Cheryl Davino, told her it was
well behaved and good with young children. They gave her the pet free of
charge.
‘I think they had a problem with the dog and didn’t know how to handle it, and they were just trying to get rid of it, and they did,’ brown said.
However, on Wednesday afternoon, Story went to clean the dog’s cage and Buddy turned violent.
It
was gathered that the 100-pound lapdog plopped on his former owner,
angling for scratches and treats, as the pit bull tore open Story’s
throat and killed her. Story’s sister, who tried to pull the pit bull off the victim also suffered unspecified injuries.
“She (Story) had lacerations about the neck and the face area,” Sheriff Tilley described. “It took approximately five to seven minutes to control the dog.”By the time medics could get to the home, time had nearly ran out.
“She didn’t die until the medics left here with her. They were going to put her on the helicopter, and when they put her on the helicopter she had already died,” Brown said.Meanwhile, Mr Brown wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday that he wants the pit bull’s previous owners held responsible for his stepdaughter’s death.
“We want to find the people that gave her the dog, and told her it was “good-natured” and everything, we’d like to find that out,” Brown ended saying.
