Mary
Grace Trinidad who is a ‘local transient’ according to authorities has
been charged with attempted murder and child endangerment after she gave
birth and left the baby at the bathroom stall of a subway station.
The
homeless woman gave birth at the West Covina subway chain in California
was found when police officers followed her blood from the train
station to a local Pep Boys car shop. The baby was found at 8.30am
by an employee and was immediately conveyed to the intensive care unit
at Queen of the Valley Medical Centre.
The scene was described as bloody by Corporal Rudy Lopez, who also
noted ”it was not clear if Trinidad gave birth directly into the
toilet”.
Authorities followed the trail of blood and found the woman twenty minutes later. She was arrested immediately and taken to the same hospital as her baby for pregnancy-related issues. According to police, Trinidad was wanted for a previous narcotics charge. The baby who was in critical condition has not been described as premature or not.
