OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso (AP) — Burkina Faso and French forces killed four extremists Saturday and freed more than 126 people to end the seizure of a luxury hotel by al-Qaida-linked militants, Burkina Faso officials said. In addition to the four jihadists, at least 23 people were killed in the attack at the Splendid Hotel and a nearby cafe in Ouagadougou, the capital, the president said. Three attackers were killed at the hotel and a fourth was killed when security forces cleared out a second hotel nearby.

Plot To Stage Violent Protest Over Fees Increment Uncovered

Following indications that some unknown groups are planning to carry out violent protest in Benin, Edo state, the state police command have moved to prevent a possible breakdown of law.

In a statement signed by Abdulkadir Mohammed, the deputy commissioner of police, said that investigations has shown that the proposed action is connected to alleged increase in school fees with tertiary institutions in the South-South geo-political zone.

The police force headquarters has warned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group to desist from carrying out protests across South eastern states.

In a new statement issued by the force spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, on Friday, November 6 in Abuja, the police said the law prohibiting the unlawful possession of firearms was still in force.

“Information available to the Nigeria police indicates plans by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to embark on ill-advised protest using dangerous weapons across some South Eastern States,” she said.

According to the command’s spokesman Anisim Butswat, he said protesters were arrested during a flag-raising ceremony of the Biafra Movement on the Mbiama-Yenagoa road and are currently under investigation.

“We conceded a quick opening goal, and we had to react quickly. It was very hard tactically and we ran a lot to get the win. We had a bad start in this game, which does not happen often to my players despite their young age,” Baye Ba explained.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, was full of joy after the  in to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Pinnick, who visited the team before the clash against Mexico, praised the players for showing great spirit in the tournament.

Snake Bites Man At Enugu Assembly Complex, Kills Him

Tragedy struck at the Enugu state House of Assembly complex on Tuesday, November 3 as an unidentified manual labourer died after he was bitten by a snake.

The Punch reports that the labourer, said to be a native of Abakiliki in Ebonyi state was contracted to cut grasses at the complex. He was hired alongside his colleagues from “Ogbo Mmanu”, a popular hub for manual labourers in Enugu, to clear the thick grasses that had taken over the Assembly complex. 

As they were executing the job, they saw a big snake and tried to kill it, inflicting a deep wound on its head. According to an eyewitness, who refused to be mentioned, the labourers though they had succeeded in killing the snake and returned to work but unfortunately, the wounded serpent, which had been lying still as if dead suddenly attacked the victim and bit him on the ankle. 

His colleagues finally succeeded in killing the serpent and rushed him to Parklane General Hospital in Enugu.
