When
you’re deciding whether you want to spend the rest of your life with
someone, definitely take a long moment to think about it. But maybe not
as long as Ray Smith.
The
38-year-old man from Grimbsy, England, spent five months proposing to
his girlfriend, Claire Bramley, without her ever noticing. He snuck the
words, “Will you marry me?” into nearly 150 photos, most of which were
taken as selfies.
According to the Mirror,
Smith had already planned on proposing before discovering last June
that Bramley was pregnant. Though he had big plans, like a hot air
balloon, he decided on a more down-to-earth way to pop the question.
(Though it was still pretty elaborate.)
“I told her I was taking the pictures to track the progress of the baby, which was a little bit of a ruse,” Smith told the Mirror.
In
order to keep her in the dark, Smith would quickly take two photos —
one with the card and one without — in case Bramley asked to see the
photo.
Finally,
Smith popped the question with a slideshow of his sneaky selfies on
Christmas morning. Bramley, who took far less time to say yes, had no
idea.
“I
was totally surprised,” Bramley said. “But in hindsight it’s exactly
the kind of thing he does. He likes to do romantic things.”
No matter how or when Smith popped the question, the why is all that matters.
“I just wanted to prove how much I love her,” he said.
